It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Francois Prijt, known worldwide as DJ Chosen Few, who passed away in the early morning of 14 October 2025 at the age of 53, following a period of illness.

DJ Chosen Few was a true pioneer of Hardcore and Gabber music, and one of the founding figures of the genre’s explosive rise in the 1990s. At just 20 years old, he joined Mokum Records, bringing a raw, experimental sound shaped by his early passion for Hip Hop and 80s Electro, which he first explored on a Commodore 64.
While working as a motorcycle courier, Francois began producing the Early Hardcore tracks that would soon define a generation.
From humble beginnings in small Amsterdam venues like Amnesia, his reputation quickly grew, leading to performances at legendary international events including Thunderdome, Hellraiser, Energy-Rave and Mayday. Throughout his career, DJ Chosen Few performed across Australia, the United States, Russia, and throughout Europe, leaving an indelible mark on dance floors worldwide.

He released more than 70 tracks on Mokum Records and “Name of the DJ” (MOK46, 1995) became an instant classic — an anthem of the Gabber era that remains iconic today. Its unforgettable line,
“At the count of three, I want you all to tell me the name of my DJ 1, 2, 3, clap clap clap,”
still echoes through festivals and clubs around the world.

Beyond his work as DJ Chosen Few, Francois produced music under the aliases The Original Gabber and Strontium 9000, showcasing his creativity and versatility as an artist. His contribution to the hardcore movement shaped not only the sound but also the spirit of the scene inspiring countless DJs and producers across generations.
“Francois was more than a legend, he was family to everyone in the hardcore community,” said a spokesperson for Mokum Records. “His passion, energy, and love for the scene helped build what hardcore is today. His music will live forever.”
Francois “DJ Chosen Few” Prijt will be remembered for his dedication to the music he loved, his authenticity, and the joy he brought to fans around the globe. His legacy as one of the true architects of hardcore will endure for decades to come.
